Wayne Hills Patriot Families,
I hope that this letter finds you and your family well. We extend our sympathies to all of those directly and indirectly affected by the current pandemic of COVID-19.
As a community, we have come together to provide words of encouragement and support for those directly affected by loss and hardship, raised funds to support our local first responders and medical personnel working every day in the trenches, all the while hoping for a brighter tomorrow and a return to the court, field, course and track.
As you are aware, shortly after New Jersey Governor Murphy’s announcement this past week regarding the closure of schools for the remainder of the school year, the NJSIAA followed with cancelation of the Spring athletic season for the 2020 school year. I along with your coaches and club adviser, share in the disappointment of the loss of the athletic and Spring activities season. To our seniors, especially, whose commitment has extended over these past several years to competition and performance, matches and games, culminating competitions and county and state events – we extended a resounding “job well done” and heartfelt thanks for all your many contributions.
Competing alongside your Patriot teammates, you have devoted a great deal of time and energy to the pursuit of competitive excellence and have represented well the strong tradition that Wayne Hills has developed and continues to foster over these many years and as such, we celebrate you and all your accomplishments.
Our coaches were hopeful for what they believed would be tremendously fruitful seasons for our Softball and Baseball programs. Our Golf and Boys Tennis and Boys Volleyball teams had returning athletes that were likely to build on strong season from last year with what would have likely proven both significant team and individual accomplishments. Our Boys and Girls Lacrosse looking to see back-to-back County and Divisional Championships return with great runs for the State Titles on the horizon. And, our Boys and Girls Track and Field had outstanding athletes that were ready to take to all the events with vigor and speed. There were club competitions to be held, music and the arts productions yet to be staged and presented and trips to be taken - days yet to be celebrated. I extend a heartfelt thanks to all of our coaches and advisers who have continued to stay in touch and keep the flame of enthusiasm for the season alive.
In the days ahead, we will continue to build on Senior Spotlight communications, Be the Light events for 2020 Seniors and whatever recognition we can to celebrate your efforts and many achievements. I extend my personal thanks to all our student athletes and club members and the families, friends and fans that have supported them, for your continued support and encouragement.
Perhaps the greatest gift received from the challenges faced this year is the heightened awareness that we are inherently connected - One Community, One School, One Team… All Wayne Hills Patriots!
Patriots Pride,
Mr. Jeff DiLollo
